Stonework

Creating a beautiful stone fireplace, fire pit, or hardscaped patio elevates a space in many ways.
Our stonework projects include:

  • Stone patios for dining, playing, and sitting
  • Walkways to and from your home or through a garden
  • Entryways and door thresholds
  • Walls for terraces or fences
  • Sitting walls, such as around a garden or firepit
  • Built-in grills to protect your cooking area and elevate the look
  • Steps, in place of pavers or bricks
  • Benches for sitting or decoration
  • Driveways in stone really stand out compared to concrete.
  • Fireplaces/fire pits look fantastic in stone.
  • Veneers for your home’s exterior

The Benefits of Stone

Stone is very durable and will last a long time, even through North Carolina’s changeable weather. Stone looks more natural than most pavers, so many homeowners prefer its use for outdoor projects. For example, stone makes an aesthetic walking surface, more appealing than traditional concrete sidewalks.

What to Expect with Stonework

Stone comes in varying sizes and thicknesses. Most of our stone comes from Tennessee and Virginia; we work with flagstone, quarry stone, limestone, slate, or river rock. While color options are, of course, more limited than pavers, stone still offers a variety of colors and shades.

In general, stones used for a path, driveway, or walkway are placed half an inch to an inch and a half apart. Our stones are placed on a solid bed of gravel, similar to pavers, for lasting durability. We can build stone projects with or without mortar for varying looks. For walkways, we often put grass in between the stones to create a lovely path.

When working on your outdoor project, we might also suggest using any natural stones we find as part of the plan. Natural stone creates a visual impact, helps with erosion control, creates separation and is low maintenance.
